Fat is a component in food. Foods containing fats are nuts, oils, butter, and most meats like beef. The name "fat " may make it sound like something you shouldn't eat. But fat is an important part of a healthy diet. On the food pyramid fats are found at the top.

15% to 30% of total calories 

1000 calorie diet = 150 to 300 calories of fat a day. 

1200 calorie diet =  180 to 360 calories of fat a day. 

1400 calorie diet =  210 to 420 calories of fat a day.

1700 calorie diet =  255 to 510 calories of fat a day.

2000 calorie diet =  300 to 600 calories of fat.
